Travertine Pool Deck Care Through Summer

Travertine is the pool deck we install most. It stays cooler than concrete pavers, grips when it's wet, and the cream tones suit almost any house. The catch is that it's calcium based and your pool is full of chlorine, which pits the surface and eats the sealer over time. Regular upkeep is what keeps it looking right.

The Summer Routine

1. Rinse every weekend. Sixty seconds with the hose before chlorine residue dries.
2. Mild cleaner monthly. Use a pH neutral stone cleaner and a soft brush. Skip vinegar, lemon, and all purpose sprays, because they etch travertine for good.
3. Check the joints. Open joints let water under the stone, and if you don't catch it early you'll see white efflorescence within a season.

Sealing Schedule

Pool deck travertine fights UV and chlorine at the same time, so reseal every 2 years. Use a penetrating sealer that soaks into the stone. It won't get slippery when wet or peel as it wears.

Putting in a new deck? Go with the French pattern. It's the strongest look for a Las Vegas pool deck, and it hides minor wear better than any single size layout.
